This is the first, in what will be a series of 6, DISCOVER OKLAHOMA letterboxes. There will be one box (and stamp) for each of the "countries" in Oklahoma -- GREEN COUNTRY, RED CARPET COUNTRY, FRONTIER COUNTRY, GREAT PLAINS COUNTRY, LAKE AND TRAIL COUNTRY, and KIAMICHI COUNTRY.
They will each be planted in the area of the state where appropriate, so it make take a few months before you can get the complete state stamped in your book!
These were originally planted as a set for the "Cabin Fever Gathering" of letterboxers, April 2, 2005, but rather quickly disappeared one by one after the gathering. So we have re-carved the stamps and assembled the boxes for replanting!
For those "non-Okies", these towns mentioned are along the southern border of Oklahoma. Raymond Gary State Park is named after one of our governors who was from this part of the state. The park is small, but really beautiful and worth the trip! A lovely small lake with plent of shoreline to fish, nice camp areas for both tents and RV's and lots of picnicing places. Kiamichi Country is our personal favorite of the six areas of the state - for scenery, camping and fishing. Our ancestors lived in this area when it was Indian Territory, so it holds a special place in our hearts!

Clues:

Take US 70 east from Hugo to Fort Towson and take state highway 203 south to Raymond Gary State Park. Drive past the lake and camping areas to "end of 203. Rather than following the curve left sign, pull straight ahead and down to the picnic area below the dam.
Park anywhere available. Walk past the picnic tables to the large pile of stones that hold the south end of the cable fence. Step over the cable and walk @ 270 degrees across the meadow to one of the hardwood trees that line the far side of the meadow. With your back to the correct tree the first picnic table will be at 60 degrees.
The tree has a large hollow in the base on the "meadow" side...Your prize is "hanging" inside the hollow.

Happy Questing!
