Lowe-Volk Park is located at 2401 St. Rt. 598 in Leesville, OH. It is a nature park with an educational nature center (which has a great room off the back that you can sit in and watch the many birds come to feed, when the center is open), several ponds, meadows and the Sandusky River runs through it. Dogs are allowed but must be on leash. Please note that the trails can be muddy, so wear appropriate footwear. Pull into the driveway and park on your left, by the information/map board. Standing in front of this board, turn right and start walking towards the pond. Go left and follow the pond, keeping it to your right. As you round the far end, you will see a grass/dirt trail straight ahead. As you start on this trail, look to your left for the brightly painted butterfly box. On your right, a few steps further, you will see a meadow with lots of bluebird boxes. Continue on this trail until you come to the second pond. Here you will take the trail that goes to the left, into the woods. Follow this winding trail. Please watch your footing as there are a lot of exposed roots and rocks that could trip you up. This path will meet the river and will follow along beside it for a while. When you get to the trail that goes to the left, take it. (there is a bench at this intersection). Follow this trail as it winds it's way to the river overlook. If you come early in the morning, you might just see a family of deer - if you come later in the day, you can tell they were there by their hoofprints all along the trail. Stop at the overlook and read the Geography of History and about the birth of the Sandusky River. When you are done with your history lesson, take the downward trail to the left of the overlook. Just past the split rail fence there will be a bench on your right. Have a seat. You are now facing a layered stone wall. Look along the bottom of the wall. There is a large rock that forms a small overhang. Tucked back under a flat rock you will find your sun set.
