"Crow's Nest" Letterbox

Difficulty: Moderate, gravel road to woodland trail
Distance: 2 miles roundtrip
Hand Carved Stamp: Yes
Ink pad in box: No
Compass: Helpful, not required

Near Pittman Center, turn south off 321 into the Greenbrier entrance. Drive along the road almost 3 miles, then turn left following the Ramsey Cascades trail sign. Drive over the two wooden bridge sections; the trail you seek is the first on your Right after crossing the bridges (notice a gravel trail blocked by a chain gate, this is it!) Park in one of the small pulloffs and begin your hike by walking around the chain gate. You're going the right way when you see the "2 ton limit".

Follow the gravel trail S.E., passing old cement foundation columns on your left; continue onward. The gravel trail ends and an old footpath begins, which you will follow to an old cemetery.
As you stand at the entrance to the cemetery clearing, you cannot see the rest of the trail, but it continues at the far Right (S.E.) corner of the clearing. This short segment brings you to a trail divide; choose the Left trail and continue onward (Southerly). As you walk, the False Gap Prong of the river will appear on your right side.

After about 0.4 mile, you will reach the beginning of a rock wall that borders the trail on the E. side (Left). Stop and look E/N.E. into the clearing. You will see the remains of a stone chimney column. *** You need not disturb the chimney, please do not move its stones *** Behind the chimney is a downed tree, with a stump on the N.E. side of the chimney.
In the center of that stump, safely wedged under a rock, is the Crow's Nest Letterbox. Please replace the box under the stone and leaf debris when you're finished stamping in.

While placing this box I heard crows calling the woods, but they remained hidden from view. Perhaps they will appear for you!
