Henning, Tn. best known as boyhood home of the 1976 Pulitzer Prize winning author Alex Haley. Alex Haley's boyhood home is located at 201 Church St. in Henning. The letterbox, ROOTS of Henning, is in his honor.

Henning , Tn. is located about 45 miles North of Memphis, TN. off of Hwy 51 North. After going through Covington, Henning will about about 5 mile North. Look for " WELCOME TO HENNING" sign on Right side of Hwy 51. Turn Right onto 209 N. After travelling a short distance on 209 you will come into the town of Henning, Tn. On the Right side of the road you are on there will be a Red Caboose, with a sign in front directing you to the Alex Haley Museum. Turn into the Red Caboose parking area. There will be a gazebo and some park benches. Go to the side of the caboose facing the RailRoad tracks. Turn and face the caboose. (The end steps and wheels to your Left) Under the caboose, above the wheels closest to the steps is where the letterbox well be sandwiched between the steel frame of the caboose. Good Luck and Happy Letterboxing!
