Directions to the Red Apple Farm in Phillipston, Ma.
Route 2 west Exit 19 (Rte 2A/202North) bear left at the stop sign, Go 1.6 miles, take a right onto Highland Ave (Red Apple Farm sign. Drive .9 miles, the Red Apple Farm is on the left.

Park in the dirt parking lot near the country store (store open July - December). Great place for warm apple dumplings!

Facing the barn with the big white doors, look to it's left to find the trail sign (trail to 1000 acre swamp).

Follow the trail into the woods. You will see a large gap in the stone wall on the right, pass a 5 trunk tree on your right, then enter the woods on your left. Path winds left over a stream bed with moss covered rocks, up a hill, you'll start to see glacier rocks.

*Trail is marked with yellow squares on the tree

Pass the Vernal Pool and take a right at the 1000 acre swamp sign. Pass 5 Indian Camp, 6 Hurricane Evidence, 7 Bear Tree through the stone wall at "chestnut saplings" sign.

Trail becomes undefined but pick it up on the left near the large rock. Look for the Glacier boulder sign and start going downhill over the large fallen tree, down the hill to the swamp.

Enjoy the beaver lodge and dam. Just 10 paces before the sign 10 1000 acre swamp, stand at the 3 large trees and look to your right. You will see a fallen old stump 12 paces from the trail at 80"East. Look under here for your bugs.

Return to your car the way you came. Easy terrain, a little rocky, one long hill to climb after you find the box.

BUG SPRAY A MUST!!!

For an alternate longer walk back, take a right at the Red Apple farm double arrow sign. This will take you to an orchard behind the barn. 3 moose were spotted that day we planted the box. Enjoy the treasures of the 1000 acre swamp.
