The Celts believed that dogs held magical healing properties. It has been suggested that this is because they heal their own wounds by licking. Dogs are commonly depicted at Celtic healing sanctuaries, and at one such sanctuary in Gloucestershire, no fewer than nine canine images have been discovered as offerings to the Gods.
Travelling east on Hebron Avenue, turn left onto Manchester Road (Rt. 83). Immediately turn left into
Buckingham Park. Bear right and park in the lot adjacent to the soccer/baseball fields. Enter the woods at the double blue/white/blue and bear left at the fork. Following the trail, you will soon notice it looping back and following the stream. Look for the thin tree with the blue/white/blue blaze smack dab in the middle of the trail and continue for 10 more steps. Now wander off to the right of the trail to a thin 4 foot stump. Just ahead
on your right you will see a big old 6 foot stump at the edge of the marsh. The Mystical Hound can be found in the hollow of this stump. Back on the trail, continue on to cross over the brook and maneuver around a newly fallen tree, being careful to keep left at the fork. When you see the fields on your left, take the side trail towards them. The gravel path to the left will bring you back to the parking lot.
