This one is for all the treasure seekers out there. Local legend has it that back in the late 1800's or early 1900's, a couple of bad guys robbed a bank in Tyler and headed to Palestine. When they were caught in Palestine, they no longer had their treasure with them. There is proof that they did camp out at Cary Lake on their trip to Palestine. However, the treasure has never been found. Now the neat thing about all of this is that at Cary Lake, there are some really neat sandstone caves. These caves have actually been explored by a group of Texas A&M geologists, who dug out 23-25 separate rooms, but everytime there is a big rain, the lake goes up and the caves get filled up with water. I personally have only seen about 4-5 rooms, but could make out an opening to another room. The caves are on private property, but the LB is close to the road. So have fun and go treasure hunting

Directions to Cary Lake
From the intersection of Hwy 69 and Hwy 79 in Jacksonville, go South on Hwy 79 towards Palestine about 1.6 miles and look for FM 747 to the right. Stay on 747 for approximately 7.9 miles. The first 6.2 miles on 747 is a really nice striped road. At the 6.2 mile mark it turns in to a black top, and then after .7 mile on the black top it turns into a dirt road. Stay on the dirt road until you see the entrance to Cary Lake Ranch on your right. From the main entrance, drive 0.2 mile and stop and look to your left for a large pine tree next to a metal crossbar across a "road". The lb is at the base of that large pine tree.
Be careful of snakes and poison ivy/oak and as always, please re-cover the box. Please contact me and let me know the condition of the box
Enjoy!!!
