Peace...in Ekari! (Indonesia)
Glastonbury, CT

NOTE: This adventure is about 0.75-1 mile long. It should take roughly 45 minutes to complete your quest. It has long been a popular mountain biking site. There are many, many miles of trails through this region. You'll be exploring an area of woodland between Case Mountain and Buckingham Reservoir, which covers portions of Manchester, Bolton and Glastonbury.

From the intersection of routes 83 and 94 in Glastonbury, drive east on rte 94 (Hebron Avenue) for 2.9 miles. As you drive up a slight hill, turn left onto Birch Mountain Road. From here, drive for about 0.2 miles. You can either park at a large pullover on the right side by a transmission tower or drive a short distance farther and turn onto Horizon Lane. If you choose to park in the dirt lot, get out of your car and walk along the side of the road to Horizon Lane. Watch for cars.
Opposite Horizon Lane is the blue/red trail. There is a tree numbered "55" next to the entrance. Following this trail, walk downhill, through a stone wall and past a handcrafted stone bike jump. After 4 or 5 minutes you will come to a clearing with powerlines. Continue on the trail as you cross this open area. Watch for mucky spots. When you come to a junction with a dirt road, turn left and head uphill. Quite soon, the blue/red trail veers right, you go straight. Walk over a culvert on the wide path that hugs the treeline. At the next juction, turn left, back under the powerlines. Proceed on the gravelly trail up the hill until you come toto an intersection in front of a stone wall. Take the trail at 230 degrees. Follow it for less than 100 yards into the woods until it passes through a gap in a wall. Standing at the opening, notice a twin tree at 210 degrees. It's only about 8 steps away. Go there. Tucked into the wall, about 2 1/2 feet up, behind these trees is the "Peace...in Ekari" letterbox. It is covered by a small stone. You won't have to disturb the wall.

To return to your car, simply go back the way you came. Watch carefully for the turnoff for the blue/red trail on the right. If you miss it, the trail ends at a gate by Birch Mountain Rd. Simply turn right there and walk uphill to your car.

I hope you enjoyed this adventure! Spread the word!
