(I've just adopted this letterbox. The clues are the original clues. Please let me know the condition of the box, as I have yet to check on them. Thanks, Sally-O )
An update from a letterboxer:
Burning Feet : "You have to walk quite a distance before approaching the culvert. Do not be mistaken by small streams crossing the path."

"Peas on Earth" Letterbox

This is a very scenic 1.75 mile hike near the Porter and Howard Reservoirs if you only visit this box. It can easily be done with the "Compass Rose" letterbox and the "Who Let the Dog's Out" series. It is quite a popular spot for hikers and joggers. I enjoy exploring here quite often. Though parts of it are labeled "no dogs", I see canines fairly often.

Directions: From interstate 384E in Manchester, take exit 4 towards Highland Street. Turn left onto Spring Street. Spring Street turns into Wyllys Street at the intersection of Highland Street. Continue straight until you come to a stop sign. After the stop sign, look for Ferguson Street. It is the second road on the right. There is a school on the corner. Turn onto Ferguson Street. and drive less than 0.2 mile. Head up a slight hill. Just before you come to a yellow fire hydrant, turn right onto a gravel road and park in the lot. Be careful, the turn-off is not clearly marked.

The first portion of the clues is EXACTLY the same as "Who Let the Dogs Out?". (See note below) Once you have parked, walk past the gate and follow the trail in an eastern direction. Occasionally, you will notice some blue blazes. After walking up a slight hill, you will pass a small trail on the right that seems to be heading towards some power lines. Shortly after that, walk straight through an "X" intersection. A trail joins from the right as you hike parallel to a nearby stream. Pass a triagular stone and a wide gravelly trail, both on the left. Soon you will continue past a paved road on the left towards an earthen dam. Stay on the blue trail as it bends right alongside the dam. Once at the end of the dam, turn leftward and climb the enbankment towards a small reservoir. Walk to the edge of the water and follow the red blazed trail counter clockwise around the reservoir. (This trail is easy to find and follow.) Very quickly you will walk by a stone construction on the left that looks like a terrific place to soak your feet on a warm day. (not allowed, sorry.) Continue along until you get to the farthest point on the reservoir. You'll see what appears to be a cement boat launch on the left. Across the water, notice the brick pumphouse at 225 degrees. From the "boat launch", spot a wide grassy trail at 70 degrees. Follow it through the woods away from the body of water. As you walk you will pass a pyramid stone atop a nearby hill on the right. Watch for a 4' high boulder near the trail, also on the right. The trail bends right at this point. Continue walking as you climb up, over and down into a former reservoir area. The trail skirts along the edge of a wetland. Follow the trail until you eventually come to a gully with a stream running through. From here, retreat 33 steps. Spot the roots of a former tree lying south of where you are. Walk 12 steps to it. Carefully reach inside so as not to disturb the hiding spot. There you will find some veggies.

Return the way you came to the reservoir. From there you can continue circling it in a counterclockwise manner. Watch for a black iron bridge on the left. From here, turn right onto a paved road. Follow it to Ferguson Street. From there, turn left and follow the sidewalk downhill for about 50 yards. The parking area is on your left.

NOTE: If you are searching for this box at the same time as "Who Let the Dog's Out" series, Follow these clues on your way to the "Rock Lobster" letterbox. (the 3rd box in that series)

Happy adventures!
