6-12-19 I HAVE MOVED DINO TO A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT LOCATION.

4-15-23 This box seems to have gone missing. I've searched the area but there is no sign of it. I will replant at another time.

The Dino Boulder Letterbox is found in Sunnybrook Park in Torrington Ct. Sunnybrook Park is located on Newfield Rd. in Torrington, which is off of Winsted Rd. Take Route 4 west through Torrington. Take a right at the police station onto Main St., go past the K Mart plaza, and at the Evangelical Baptist Church, go straight onto Newfield Rd. After about 2 1/2 miles there will be a bridge, and a small sign for the John Muir Trail. This trail will eventually take you to Burr Pond, where there are more letterboxes and is another good place to hike. Sunnybrook Park is after the bridge on your left. There are two stone pillars marking the entrance, and a sign post, but no sign, for the park.

After parking your car in the lot, walk past the barricade and follow the old paved road. On the right, before you come to the cement bridge, there is a trail marked with blue. Take this trail, crossing over a small wooden bridge. Continue up the hill, it is a bit rocky. After you cross another wooden bridge, marked with a small plaque from the Eagle Scouts, take the yellow trail on your left. This is a rocky trail that follows the stream for a short way and then winds along by one of the swamps, and then continues up the hill to what I believe were fields at one time. When you come to the first intersection, take the yellow and blue marked trail to your right. You will then come to a blue trail; take the left fork. This is a rocky, meandering trail that crosses over some small streams. You will eventually see the Dino Testone Boulder on your right.

Stand on the trail on the west side of the boulder, with it to your left. Ahead is a hemlock tree that grew in a big curve right along the ground. Go to this branch, turn around facing the trail, and right in front of you is a small pile of rocks. Dino is resting there. Please carefully rehide him when you are done. I have relocated this box to this spot, as the old one required bushwacking. There is such a problem with ticks that I felt it was too nasty to be pushing around in the undergrowth. A lot of trees and branches had fallen over the old spot as well.

After carefully resealing and replacing the box, return to the trail. You can return the way you came, or continue on: follow the trail downhill, crossing a small stream. At the next intersection, bear left onto the blue trail. Almost immediately you will see a red trail on the left. This circles a small swamp, and comes out further along the blue trail.Pass this if you chose. You are now on a red and blue trail. At the next intersection, turning right will take you down to the field where they fly the model airplanes, but continue on the red and blue trail, which becomes just blue at some point. You will also find the red trail on the left, which is the end of the swamp circle. Follow the red trail down the hill. Bear right on the yellow trail. There is a white trail on the left, but continue on to the next yellow trail on the left. If you stay going downhill, you will come out in the fields. Follow the yellow trail until you come to the stream and the wooden bridge. The white trail connects at this point. Cross the wooden bridge and follow along next to the stream. There are many good swimming areas for dogs along here. Towards the end where you can see the cement bridge on the old paved road, there is a blue trail to the left. This leads you around a small pond. Either way, take a left onto the old paved road, and you will find your car.

There are other trails and more letterboxes here in Sunnybrook. This park deserves more attention than it currently gets. I hope you had a good time!
