Peace...in Dutch

NOTE: This is a 1 mile scenic hike on the blue blazed Shenipsit Trail off of Camp Meeting Road. It is the same starting point as the "Peace...in French" letterbox. There are parts that are mildly hilly and at one spot you'll have a wide stream to cross (especially in spring months). However, there is nothing too major. Be careful when walking along Camp Meeting Road, cars go pretty fast.
From I-384 take exit 4. If you are coming from I-384E, turn left at the end of the offramp. Then turn right at the traffic light. This is Camp Meeting Road. If you are coming from I-384W, turn right at the end of the offramp. At the traffic light, continue straight. This is Camp Meeting Road (deja vu!). Drive for 1.3 miles, passing Birch Mountain Road and Carter Street on your right. About 100 yards after you pass the "Bolton Town Line" sign, you'll come to a dirt pullover on the right. Park here.
Walk back up the road in the direction you came, past a sign labelled 19. Look for the Shenipsit Trailhead (blue blazes). Cross Camp Meeting Road (Be careful...Cars travel fast on this stretch of road!). Walk past the gate. Soon you will come to a stream. Watch your balance as you step on pipes and logs as you cross. Pass a stone wall on the left. At the first intersection you come to, turn left onto the yellow trail. Climb up a small hill and walk past a split rock. At the next junction, turn right and continue to follow yellow blazes. Watch for a large pine tree on the right. The yellow trail veers here. Soon after stepping over a short stone wall, you'll come to a somewhat open area. If you look to your left, you'll see a large sign on I-384. Turn your back to it! Continue following the yellow trail uphill for a short distance until you come to a yellow equal sign on a tree. The trail ends here. Turn left onto the blue trail (again). As you walk uphill watch closely for a twin tree on the right side of the trail. It has blue blazes on both twins. One of the twins has a small hole about 5-5 1/2 up. Stop here. Look to your right. There is a 20 foot stump about 10 steps away. Just to the left of it lies the rest of the tree. I marked it with a piece of quartz. Under this former tree, about 5 feet from the quartz is the "Peace...in Dutch" letterbox. NOTE: If you come to a "T" intersection, you've gone a little too far.
Please rehide carefully once you have stamped in. Return the way you came. I hope that you have had fun...spread the word!
