The "Safari Man- On The Highway/ and Interstate" series depicts things one might see as they drive the highways of the U.S. These are targeted mainly for rest stops but might pop up anywhere. This letterbox is titled WIDE LOADS. Happy traveling!
Clues: Traveling west on I-44 get off at the 52 mile marker into the rest stop and go to the far end of the first auto parking lot and park. Go across the parking lot to the pet area. From the fire hydrant follow the path into the woods 30 steps and look for 3 lying logs together on your right/left, depending on where the path is now. (the closest ends of the logs are at a standing tree) The WIDE LOADS letter pouch is between the center lying log end and the standing tree, under sticks.
NOTE: The leaves have covered the path in the winter so head for a place about 1/2 way between the big pile of limbs and the maintenance outbuilding to find the three downed trees. NOTE from boxer on 4/25/2010: The clues don't quite match anymore, as there aren't 3 big trees down anymore, and the path doesn't appear to be in the same spot. The best help though was the 1/2 way between the big pile and the maintenance shed. We just looked all around trees until we found the right one. NOTE 4/25/10 FROM: Queen City Sleuths.....It's about the largest tree (probably the largest) down. And the box is under the end of the fallen tree closet to the standing tree.
Please be discrete when retrieving and replacing the pouch and please double bag and reseal the zippers securely to protect the log book. I hope your trip is a pleasant one and if you would let me know the condition of the letterbox I would certainly appreciate it.
