BRING ALONG CLUES TO PART 1 Nature of the Forest

From Matthies Grove Parking Area (North of the enterance) cross East River Road and take the Blue Trail. At the "Y" intersection turn right onto the Blue with Orange Dot Trail.
Cross Greenwoods Road and stay on the Orange Dot Trail. Standing on the frist bridge you come to, find a large boulder in front, to the right & up on the hill. Go 16 paces towards the boulder and find The Frog under the ledge in front of the boulder.

Continue on the Orange Dot Trail, over two fallen trees. See the Big fallen tree paralleling the trail on the right hand side. In it's roots The Bear is hidding.

Continue on the Orange Dot Trail, over the brook again, keep going up the hill (Phew!). At the top, where the trees thin out sightly on the left, find a two-sister tree with one sister passed on (it's a Big hollow trunk). Standing in front of the trunk, turn left to see a tree with a split up the middle. From that tree find the two large trees very close together (but not sisters) twelve paces away on the right you will find The Bird behind the smaller tree.

Follow the trail to the James Stocking Recreational Area. From that sign go across the street to an unmarked trail, at the next "T" turn left onto the Blue Trail. As you continue to hike down the Blue Trail you will see the road peeking thru the trees, on the left. As you are going downhill notice two stumps, one on either side of the trail. Walk thru a huge fallen tree, with a section cut out of it. Keep going downhill, as you near the end of the hill where the road is very close to the trail on the left, sit on the "Right" rock on the right side of the trail. This rock has a tree laying on it. Behind a rotting fallen tree you will find The Squirrel.

At the intersection go right onto the Blue Trail to return to East River Road and the Parking area.
