***THIS SERIES HAS BEEN RETIRED.***

When I was a child, Easter was my favorite holiday because I loved Easter Egg Hunts. So much so that after my sisters and I found all the eggs my mother had hidden, I would make my sisters give me their eggs and I would rehide them. Over and over. All day long. And sometimes into the next day. I just couldn't get enough!

This, in many ways, was the beginning of my affinity for Treasure Hunts and, eventually, Letterboxing. Thanks to Penguin Patrol for suggesting this series after hearing my story.

A variety of colored inks will greatly enhance these stamps. Sunscreen, bug repellent, snake stick, tick hat are all good to bring. Watch out for enthusiastic bikers and the occassional ATVer (can you believe it?)!

QUEST OF THE HEN FRUIT

Begin your quest at an East Nashville Urban Escape. Find the section of the park which requires you to cross under a train trestle and park. Hint: check out the location title.

This is not a strenuous hike at all--very level, but is more often than not, Muggle-full. Your Quest will be easier if you have a Lookout with you. Early morning hours are usually quieter. The hunt averages about 2-2 1/2 hours to do the whole thing at once. Feel free to note how long it took you in the final logbook or in your update to me.

Once you've parked, head for the trail map and description located within a circle Follow the paved path counter-sunwise. When the path gives you the option of turning toward the train trestle or entering the woods, head for the shade.

Box #1: Robyn's Egg

Just before crossing water without getting your feet wet, look to the future. Take the path less traveled to your RIGHT. Locate a large, old, two-trunked tree watching over the path. It is unmistakable when you find it. Search below stones at its base. Stamp in and enjoy. Return to the paved path and continue as before to your RIGHT.

Box #2: Wesley & Derek's Egg

As of July 23, 2006, this box has been muggled and will be relocated and replaced shortly.

Box #3: Chris' Egg

Return to paved path, turn RIGHT and continue. Just after resisting a paved option on your left, spy a bench and have a seat. Notice the unusual concrete "duck slide" leading to the water behind you? Carefully follow this into the woods. If area is wet, use EXTREME CAUTION. About midway down the concrete, locate a large, nearly horizontal tree on your left. Beneath rock and root lies Chris' Egg. The bench provides a comfy spot for stamping in.

Box #4: Ann's Egg

Return to paved path, continue RIGHT (the direction you were going). Pass two cozy homes, first one on the left, then one on the right. After passing the second home, spy a wide, mowed path on your LEFT. (If you come to a third house, you just missed the turn, go back.) Take this "primitive" path. Just out of sight of the paved trail, you'll notice a tree off the path to the right that is much taller than its neighbors and nothing like them, either. Begin to search the ground for a very noticeable hole created by something not human. When you find the hole, look ahead and see two large-leafed sister trees--one on each side of the path. At the base of the one on your left lies Ann's Egg. Watch out for briars. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS THE WARM WEATHER SITE FOR THIS BOX; THE CLUE MAY CHANGE WHEN FOLIAGE CHANGES.

After leaving your mark, return to the paved path and continue LEFT in the direction you were originally going.

Box #5: Dawn's Egg

Continue on the paved path until you see another lovely mowed path, this one on your RIGHT. Wander down this trail until you are out of sight of the main, paved trail. Watch on your left for a small tree of the same breed as the sister trees you just spied for Ann's Egg. This one has no sister. Next to this tree is a multi-trunked bushy thing (I'm not schooled enough to recognize it yet). Find Dawn's Egg nestled among these trunks near the ground.

Box #6: Lynn's Egg

Return to paved trail and head RIGHT (in the direction you were going before). Resist another paved temptation to your left. Look for large drainage pipes. Go down to the one on your left. Standing with the drainage "tunnel" behind you, find Lynn's Egg at the base of the first tree to your left. This is a challenging one due to the difficulty in seeing muggles until they are practically upon you and it is STRONGLY recommended that you NOT stamp on the trail since bikers fly by and will almost run you down!

After stamping in, backtrack to the last paved temptation you resisted. This time don't resist it. Continue until you can take a LEFT onto a mowed path. At the end of that trail take a RIGHT onto a paved path. This will lead you back to the parking area AND past a bonus box.

Bonus Box: The Prize Egg

It wouldn't be much of a hunt without a Prize Egg! Clues are hidden within other boxes in this series. Be sure to write the clues down when you find them.

This may or may not prove helpful: 2-1-3 Maple.

Bonus Box: Kala's Egg

Kala is my genious chihuahua pup. She just HAD to decorate her own egg!

Bonus Box: The Culprit

Find out who's behind all these eggs...
