Drive north on Nod Road from Rt. 44 & 10 intersection. When you reach the red barns of the Picking Patch, notice a brown older house on the right side of the road. Just past the house is a gravel and grass driveway on the right. Drive up this driveway and park in the large open field. This is the parking lot for Hazen Park. The trail begins at the south end of the field. Look for yellow blazes and orange “flags” on the trees. Turn right and follow the yellow blazes. After a bit of a climb, look for a 4-pronged tree arising from a single trunk on the left side of the trail. There will be a ditch on the left and a steep embankment on the right of the trail. Look to the right to two close-together trees on the embankment. Behind the 2 trees, farther up the bank is a 4-5 ft. stump. What you seek is behind the two trees.

Continue on the trail and cross the paved road picking up yellow blazes again near the sign for Hazen Park. This trail has its ups and downs. Did you notice the curved birch? Cross the boardwalk. It was still wet underfoot when the boardwalk ended. Pass through some rose bushes. Now the trail gets steep. Rest for a moment when you see two boulders, one on either side of the trail. Investigate the east side of the knobbier one. I saw some Jack-in-the-Pulpits here.

Continue up the hill and pass under the power lines. Pick up yellow blazes again as you re-enter the woods by looking ahead rightish, about 160*. I thought the trail led to an open area which I was hoping had a view, but I couldn’t find any more blazes after the 3rd one and these 3 were fairly close together. So, to find box #3, stand on the SE side of the tree with the third yellow blaze. Take a reading of 105*. You should be looking between 2 trees, one straight and one curved, to another 2 trees with intertwining trunks. Make your way there. If you step back from these trees 4-5 paces, the trees appear to be hugging, so it seemed an appropriate place to leave the last box. Check the base of the trees.

Follow the yellow blazes back the way you came.
