Walnut Point State Park has many activities to enjoy—fishing, boating (electric motors only), camping, hiking, music AND the biggest tenderloin sandwiches and tastiest ice cream provided by some Strange people at Walnut Point Cafe!
Park in the parking lot for the concession stand and go inside for an ice cream cone. As you enjoy your ice cream, exit the front door and walk counter-clockwise around the exterior of the concession stand. You’ll see planters of flowers and tables for enjoying the stand’s food. Continue on around and you’ll see the back patio offering tables with a lovely view of the lake.
As you continue around the stand, you’ll see an ice machine, bait storage and boat rental and storage buildings. Be sure to heed the warning on the outside of the boat rental building. Walk a little further and you’ll see a weather mushroom. Check the sign atop the mushroom to see what kind of weather we’re having.
As you look up from the mushroom, you’ll see two firewood storage boxes. I planted my letterbox beneath one of those firewood boxes. You won’t need to dig, but you will have to get down on hands and knees to find it. Bring your own pen and stamp pad as well. Since this is a fairly public place, please be discreet in locating & replanting the box.
Enjoy!
