This letterbox is a nice example of how easy it is to get into the woods in Ithaca. This letterbox is just a half an hour’s walk, even less from downtown Ithaca.
It is in an area that is adjacent to the Six mile Creek Preseve Area.
Start in Ithaca at the intersection of Hillview and Hudson street. To get there from downtown Ithaca take 96B which is also called S. Aurora st. south to the first stoplight (which is about 1/2 mile from downtown) That stoplight is called Hillview.
Turn left on Hillview and go one block to Hudson Street.
Around there you will have to park if you are not on foot.
You will then walk to the entrance of the South Hill Recway, which begins at Hudson Street right near Hillview.

The recway is a popular place for walkers, bikers, and runners and sometimes their dogs (which are usually on leash) It is always changing dependent on the seasons,
It uses to be an old Railroad bed that stopped running in the late 1950's

You will walk approximately 1/2 mile where you will pass a driveway. Just beyond the driveway is a sign with pamphlets inside guiding you on the recway.
Pick up a pamphlet if you like and stop at the numbered posts as you walk.

About another 1/2 mile past the pamphlet sign you will come to an intersection after post # 7.There will be a mile marker 2.5 there also on the left side of the trail.
Make a left turn there, down the hill, going east on that trail. It goes steeply downhill.
Before you get to the bottom of the hill (where there is a tiny creek bed), you will see a well-worn path on the left.
Take that less than 1/8 of a mile to a human made structure.
Go over that and immediately turn right on the trail.
Go about 26 paces till you get to 2 trees hugging the side of the trail. To the immediately right you will find a moss covered dead tree on the ground. Where the trunk forms a Y, you will find the treasure. Skyley’s Run.
Please return the box to the hiding place when you are done, covering it with leaves.
From that letterbox you can go back to the S. Hill Recway and continue on the trail to extend your walk.
