Saddness. 8/20/06 This letterbox survived for 4 years exactly. I had gotten news that the little book was finally full, and I went out to replace it this week, only to find that the letterbox was gone. I still have slight hopes that it may reappear, so I am not yet taking down this post. I will go out and look for it again one last time. :(

Hurrah! After several near disappearances, this letterbox was on hiatus for summer 2005, but it is now back in action in a hopefully safer location.

Grosse Point Light Letterbox

Grosse Point Lighthouse is located at 2601 Sheridan Road, Evanston, Illinois, Cook County.

This historic lighthouse is 113 foot tall and was built in 1873. It was built after several shipwrecks demonstrated its need. Look for more information on the web for its history and for the museum hours. The lighthouse participates in the US Lighthouse Society "Passport Program."

Clues:
Starting from the parking lot, look for sculpture in the grass. After pondering the sculptures, continue across the lawn to the sidewalk along the road.
Pass the "house" named after a color.
See the light, and follow it through the gates, forward on a long straight path to some stones.
The stones will take you on a journey and lead you down to a dock that goes nowhere.
To your right, you take the high road, and then take the low road, and you'll get to the cellar before me.
Take a peek through the links to make sure nobody's watching, then follow the path six and a half sections towards the lake. Look right and take note to see if a sleeping deer has been cuddling up close to the letterbox you are seeking.

This letterbox was planted August 20, 2002 by Jeni B & Lucy.
