INTRODUCTION
For over twenty years, crop circles have been mysteriously appearing, especially in southern England.
At first, it was thought that they were caused by freak winds or some other weather phenomena. Since 1990, however, that theory has been discounted. Elaborately designed "pictograms" began appearing. These designs were obviously intentionally constructed by some intelligence and not random weather serendippity.
Ah, but what intelligence?
One theory is that a team of individuals arrives at night with some type of tool(s) and creates the intricate, geometrically perfect designs. It is difficult enough to reproduce the designs on a small piece of stamping material let alone in a huge field. How can they be so geometrically perfect without an overhead perspective? How could they be done during short summer nights while fields were being watched and without leaving a trace and without making a sound?
Another theory (do,do, do,do, do,do, do,do - sing it with me now) is that the crop circles were and are being done by UFOs. That, I suppose, would explain the mysterious circles being done in a flash without the obvious physical signs of human beings being present but...
Nick Kollerstrom, author of the book "Crop Circles, The Hidden Form", which I purchased at Stonehenge last summer (another chorus of do,do...?) offers another theory. He puts forth that they are "indeed of human design but they are not of human labor". Hmmm, what's that mean?
He continues:"It was as if the figure( Koch Fractal, Sillbury Hill, 1999) had been transmitted from some source onto the wheatfield. Many of the recent designs indicate their maker's interest in fractal geometry. The source could, possibly, be extra-terrestrial, but I am more inclined to think that one of us is doing it. But I cannot think how it is done, nor can anyone else so far."
Whatever or whoever the source, the circles themselves are interesting, intriguing, thought-provoking and beautiful. "Crop Circle: Borromean Rings" is the first of many in this series I hope to plant.

Please bring wheat colored ink as none is provided.
