This is the first box in the "Lion and the Unicorn" series and was planted for the 2006 Great Lakes Gathering. It resides in Lapham Peak State Park (there is a fee to enter the park). It will permanently reside in the park.

(Two boxes, short hike with moderate hills. Logbook located in 2nd box.)

> The lion and the unicorn were fighting for the crown
> The lion beat the unicorn all around the town.
> Some gave them white bread, and some gave them brown;
> Some gave them plum cake and drummed them out of town.

Begin your search from the Homestead Hollow sign southeast of the windmill and follow the trail at 107 degrees. While enjoying the wonderful wildlife, you should also observe the geography of this part of Wisconsin. In particular, you should note the ‘Erratics and Kettles.’ After observing this geography, continue on the trail due south until you find three trunks in one tree on your left (about 26 paces) just a few feet from the trail. Sight 260 degrees to the junctions of two large logs. In a log in front (trailside) of a tall stump (about 20 paces) you will find the first of the combatants. The easiest route to it might not be the most direct!

[When making his mark, remember to leave space for his equally-sized opponent to the right so you can get the full picture!]
