This letterbox was removed and retired May 2, 2010.

The first box was MIA and not recovered.

These letterboxes are located in Homer Lake Forest Preserve. For directions or a map go to www.ccfpd.org You will need to bring your own pen and stamp pad. Log in and return the box to it's location and cover it back over.

Always take adequate precautions such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves before reaching into dark crevasses and holes. Bug repellent is recommended. Watch out for poison ivy, I did not see any where I hid the boxes, but it is probably in the area.

A pace is my normal step.

From the main park entrance take the road to the right. Head straight down this road until it ends in a parking area. Find the Historic Maple Groove sign over the entrance to a path leading into the woods. Approximately 130 paces from the sign there will be a fallen log nearby on the left side of the path. It is somewhat hidden under some bushes and forks into two large branches at the end facing the trail. The first box is on the log at the point were it forks into the two branches. Please rehide this box well since it is close to the path.

Continue along the path until you get to a spot where you can go left into an open area or right through more of the grove. Head right on the path through the woods about another 28 paces. To the right will be a large damaged tree that arches over the path and just to the right of that tree is a fallen tree trunk. This trunk is broken into two sections. The second box is on the ground along the edge of the fallen tree trunk near the break. It is on the side facing the arching damaged tree.
