SPECIAL NOTE: This box and The Texas State Series was created by my beautiful niece, who goes by Quetzel. We have been honored to place and maintain this box in her absence as she’s now very sadly moved out of state. Enjoy this awesome, hand carved stamp!

THE TEXAS STATE DANCE
Berry Springs Park and Preserve
Truly one of the most beautiful parks I’ve seen in Texas!

HISTORY: Officially opened October 15, 2005, Williamson County’s Berry Springs Park and Preserve is located on 300-acres along Berry Springs between I.H. 35 and C.R. 152 with the main entrance off of C.R. 152. Berry Springs Park and Preserve is utilized for passive recreational uses including camping, hiking and fishing. The park features a 2.5 mile hike/bike trail that will eventually connect to Georgetown Parks and Recreation trails.

Berry Springs Park and Preserve is named after John Berry, an early settler to Williamson County. Berry was born in 1786 in Kentucky and was a veteran of the War of 1812. He settled three miles northeast of Georgetown in 1846 in the location of the new Berry Springs Park and Preserve. He opened a blacksmith and gun shop and spring-driven gristmill near what is now called Berry Creek. Berry had 18 children by his three wives. Berry’s great-grandson was Audie Murphy, the most decorated solider in American History. A family cemetery is located on the land and holds the remains of John Berry who died in 1866 and three other family members. The land historically has been used for farming and a dairy.

MAP: Go to the website and scroll down to Berry Springs Park and see the map of this location: http://wcportals.wilco.org/parks/parks/index.htm

DRESS: This box is located in a beautiful, old pecan grove. It is mowed regularly, but I would suggest long pants and tennis shoes or boots.

CLUES:
-Turn into the park entrance, pass the informational kiosk and follow the road to the left. Park your vehicle in the first parking lot.
-Walk in the direction of the grove of trees and you will see the beginnings of the hike and bike trail. Stand on the rock circle embedded in the trail facing the grove where the trail forms a “T”.
-As we begin our lively square dance you will move from this rock circle 160° toward the first tree.
-Do-Si-Do from this tree to the third tree to the South.
-Chassé one tree West.
-Promenade one tree North.
-Swing your partner round and round and dance to the fourth tree East.
-Down the center and back again to the second tree South.
-Do-Si-Do two trees West.
-Circle round to one tree South.
-Move your partner one tree East.
-Chassé quickly one tree North.
-Promenade two by two one tree East.
-Do-Si-Do one, two, three trees South.
-Bow to your partner for the dance is done.

Go down on one knee, and at the base of this tree,
You should see in one glance, if you’ve DONE the dance…
Under these rocks you should find the box!
