From the upper parking lot, take the Old Woods Road Trail. Follow this path, keeping your eyes peeled on the sides of the trail (if you hike in the spring/early summer) for your first sight. At the intersection of Old Woods and Harraseeket Trails, you may look for a representation of this beauty. Find the old moss-covered stone wall. Walk along the wall to the third large pine tree, and search at its base.

Now, take a left onto the Harraseeket Trail, heading up and towards the water. Stop and enjoy all the scenery as you follow this path. At the Islands and Beyond, continue to walk on the Casco Bay Trail following along the water. After checking out the Rocky Shore, take the path that heads sharply to the right. After a very short distance, you will see twin dead trees on your right. Search behind and at the base of these trees for an image of your next sighting. This is a particularly busy area, so please be discrete when hunting, stamping, and re-hiding.

Continue to follow the path along the water, and enjoy the scenery along the way. After Life in the Estuary, any of the paths will lead you back to the parking lots.

A few tips:

As mentioned above, this is a busy area, so please use discretion when hunting, stamping, and hiding.

A trail map may help you on this journey.

The terrain is easy, but there are uneven places (not stroller friendly).

Consider bringing binoculars.
