This is the second letterbox we've placed.
Start at the Whitman VFW, which is just off the rotary on Route 58, in Whitman. Park in the parking lot and walk toward the picnic tables by the pond. Go right along the edge of the pond. Past the sign you'll see a set of stairs. Go up them and sit on the bench. Isn't it a pretty veiw?
Continue onwards toward the cemetary and turn left along the paved path. You will have to limbo under the gate if it's closed. Follow this pathway to it's end- note the fascinating graffiti on the ground, because some of it may become important later.
At the end of the path there is a parking lot and some creepy buildings- turn left and go along beside them until you spot the rock with a twin message as the pavement before. Follow the path beyond this rock.
When you come to a dam go over it- you may look at the pattern the water creates as it goes through the dam; it's pretty if you ignore what it looks like afterward.
Continue along the path, and when you come to a fork, take the left, unless you feel like climbing a tree, in which case detour for a moment and climb on the large uprooted trunk.
Follow this path until you come to a single large birch tree on the left with a secret message engraved in the side. It's the only one in the immediate vicinity and it is the biggest one you will encounter on this walk.
At the tree stop, enjoy the lovelness of the tree, and then turn so your back is to the tree and the pond.
Ahead of you will be a tree that looks like a "u". Go toward it by whatever means you choose. Once you are standing facing this tree, turn left, and ahead you will see a tree that looks a bit like a "y". If you go over to this tree, you will find that one root is growing toward you, and has become indecisive as to which direction to go next. Where it was once one you will find your prize.
(To reach the parkinglot afterward you may turn and go back the way you came or simply keep going- it eventually comes around in a circle and is a very pretty walk.)
