This stamp was created for the 2006 Great Lakes Gathering - Wandering through Wonderland. Like Alice, you must search for your answers.

Go to mahpaL kaeP park, on Hwy C, approximately one mile south of I-94. In 2006, the daily fee to enter the park is $7 for WI residents, $10 for non-residents. Annual stickers for all state park areas are $25 (residents) and $35 (non-residents). Reduced rates are available for people 65 years and older.

Note: This park has groomed cross country ski trails in the winter and therefore does not permit hiking on the trails when conditions are good for skiing. Plan your visit accordingly.

A tiny Alice found herself in the southeast corner of the Evergreen lot, heading south on the Ice Age Trail. She realized it was slow going when you are this small! She felt that she was moving at the pace of a glacier. She heard a noise and looked up….

An enormous puppy was looking down at her with large round eyes, and feebly stretching out one paw, trying to touch her. “Poor little thing!” said Alice, in a coaxing tone, and she tried hard to whistle to it; but she was terribly frightened all the time at the thought that it might be hungry, in which case it would be very likely to eat her up in spite of all her coaxing.

Hardly knowing what she did, she picked up a little bit of stick, and held it out to the puppy; whereupon the puppy jumped into the air off all its feet at once, with a yelp of delight….

She threw the stick ahead of her and the puppy bounded away to retreive it. So she continued in this fashion until she reached a “T”. From here the game of “fetch” continued to the left, past an observation deck and some benches. Alice considered climbing the steps, but it looked like Mount Everest since she was so tiny. She therefore kept going around the pond until she came to an open area on the left that looked like it had been cleared. Across the marsh she could just make out the observation deck. She tossed the stick toward the enormous fallen tree in the cleared area. It landed in the mid-section of the tree and that is where the puppy nestled down to chew on the stick.

Thanks to Wisconsin Hiker and Martini Man for placing the box for the gathering!
