This series is retired for now.

Wickham Park is a non-profit, private foundation whose property extends into both Manchester and East Hartford, Connecticut. The park contains 250 acres of gardens, open fields, woodlands, ponds, picnic areas, sports facilities, and other attractions.

Wickham Park is located at 1329 West Middle Turnpike in Manchester, Connecticut and is easily accessible from Interstate 84.

From east or westbound Interstate 84, take Exit 60 (Manchester-East Hartford). The park is about 500 feet west of the exit. Look for the stone gatehouse that leads to hours of relaxation and recreation.

NOTE:This park is worth packing a picnic lunch and spending the day. Kath and I have also planted a 3 box Hello Kitty series...don't forget to take those directions too. In addition there are two other boxes planted at this park placed by Linda, look for Cloud dancing and Keeping Fit on the list of letter boxes.

Note 11-23-06 In response to an email I recently received, it's been brought to my attention that Wickham Park is closed for the season. There are other options for going into the park and walking around. You can drive past the enterance of the park and park on the first street on the right and walk up the giant hill...(great for sledding by the way.) or I have parked across the street in a visitor spot at the apartment complex before.

This series is fairly easy. There is only one log book at the end for ease.

When you arrive at Wickham Park, you will need to pay at the gate. Go up the driveway and pass Lot A and the Oriental Garden on your right. Bear right at the fork. Bear right at the next fork, following sign to Sports Facility. Almost immediately you will see the Fitness Trail on your right. Park just beyond the stone wall.

Ready kids? Let's see who we find first. Start up the fitness trail. Almost immediately you will come to sign board 1,2, and 3, suggesting some stretches before you start up. Between this board and board 4 and 5 turn to your left and walk about 20 paces into the woods. You should see a "TALL" tree with a large gap in it (a nice place for a NEST). There you will find our tall feathered friend. Who could it be? (ironically this ended up being the smallest stamp of the series!)

Head back to the path and continue up the hill. Stand at board 10 and 11 at 180* (or if you don't have a compass to your right-ish) you will see a stump that is all broken and CRUMB-ly. What kind of hungry monster could be hiding in this stump?

Continue walking to the top of the path where you will encounter the parallel bars. I stood resting on them to catch my breath, I was wheezing like a broken RUBBER DUCKY, when I saw the twin trees straight back. Who could be hiding back there?

Back on the path. As I was resting my BEST FRIEND (who collects bottle caps) called me. I told my friend I was going to the right on the path and to my left there was a large tree that had fallen down. Could Ernie have a best friend too hiding behind this log?

I was getting tired and GROUCHY cause it was so hot. I found 2 large trees stand very close to each other on the right hand side of the path (if you have passed board 21 and 22, you have gone to far. About 37 paces into the woods there is a stump with it's former tree laying behind it. This stump seemed a similar shape to this friends regular home. Who could this grouchy monster be? Unfortunately My FURRY pal grover has gone missing. so please feel free to leave a peice of paper in the oscar box with you log in until I can get up there and replace our furry pal!

We are on our last leg of the hunt. There is only one more box who could it be? As you head toward board 25 and 26 there is a stump on the right that is carved. It is called Cloud Dancin...stop and say hi...oh and maybe there is an unrelated letterbox hiding near by.

You will walk for a bit before you find our FURRY PAL. Stop at the balance beam and have some fun. Everyone loves a balance beam. Shortly after the balance beam you will see a pile of cut logs on your right and a few scattered one's on your left, go 25 paces down and you will come to a small tree on your right carved with KES and LMF in a heart. 10 paces at 50* (without a compass it is directly diagonally from the small tree) you will see a large tree with a broken stump at the bottom. Your Furry old pal will be hiding there. Stamp in! wooohoooo!!! You did it! You are almost back to where you started.

Keep going down the path. And there's your car!
