A unbelievable storm swept this letterbox out to sea (Dad, stop causing problems! :-))

This letterbox is in memory of my father, Cdr. George B. Rothrock...a Naval Aviator, earning his wings at the age of 22, serving our country aboard aircraft carriers such as the USS Midway, USS Princeton, the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Constellation.

He was a very honorable man, a wonderful husband, and a true leader for our family. Our dad passed away on January 11, 2006; brave and strong to the very end.

Today, on what would have been his 79th birthday, we celebrated his life near the spot where this box is hidden...may he fly by our sides forever.

Please enjoy this very special place...

Directions to the letterbox:

(Note: This letterbox is located within the 17-mile drive. There is a fee to take the drive and it is worth it!)

Enter 17-mile drive via the Pacific Grove Gate. Follow the 17-mile drive, passing by Restless Sea and Point Joe. Continue past China Rock. About 1 mile past China Rock you will see a white sand beach on your right (if you get to Bird Rock, you have gone too far...so turn back!).

Park in the parking area and find the path that heads north. Walk north until you cross over a small stone bridge. Continue walking just past the bench on the left. To the left of the path you will find a gentle slope that allows you access to the beach. Walk down the slope and straight towards the long boulder in front of you. Find the box hidden beneath a pile of rocks at the right end of the boulder.

Please be discreet and hide the box well for others to enjoy.

P.S. Be sure to visit the Martini Martha Letterbox on your drive out to Big Sur to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday!
