As a kid growing up in Helena, I used to love going into the Parrot, and doing so was always a huge treat. Now as an adult, I always have to stop in and buy vanilla caramels ...If there are none left when you arrive, you will know we've been by that day!
When we began letterboxing a few months ago there were 50+ boxes in our home-town, but only 2 in the near vacinity of Helena (and 1 was missing)which was a disappointment when we tried to get our Helena friends and family into letterboxing, especially since there are so many great places to hide boxes in Helena. This box is part of our "Historic Helena" series.
The Parrot Confectionery has been a family-owned business in downtown Helena since 1922, and the owners generously agreed to let us "hide" a box in the store. They had never heard of letterboxing and took my word on what a great hobby it is, so I'm requesting that people be very respectful of the business and the employees. The first time that I hear that a fellow letterboxer was not polite and respectful this box WILL be discontinued (I will be calling periodically to check)!

To find this box go to the Parrot Confectionery. It is located on the Walking Mall @ 42 North Last Chance Gulch. This box is only available during business hours (closed Sundays) as it is hidden inside the store. All you need to do is go up to the counter and ask for the letterbox. No purchase is necessary, but if the store is busy please wait until paying customers have been helped. Remember The Parrot GAINS NOTHING by agreeing to keep the box, they still have to conduct regular business.

Once you have found this box you can go on to find the "Trolley" and "Guardian of the Gulch" boxes. These 3 boxes are within about a 2-block radius, and are a nice downtown walk.
