Peace...in Russian!
and Macedonian, Bulgarian, Czech, Belarussian, Bosnian, Croatian, Ukrainian, Serbian and Koryak (on the Kamchatka Peninsula)
Glastonbury, CT

NOTE: This is a 0.5 mile round trip scenic hike that passes near the Buckingham Reservoir. It is the same starting point as the "Who's the Boss" series and the "Peace...in Nepali" letterbox. Though unmarked, the trails are generally easy to walk, with some gentle hills here and there. The area is open for passive recreation.

From the intersection of routes 83 and 94 in Glastonbury, drive east on rte 94 (Hebron Avenue) for 1.5 miles. Turn left at the sign for Candlewick Kennels. Take an immediate left and park in the small lot near a yellow gate. For part of today's adventure you will be hiking along a very old stretch of road called Coops Mill Road. This is a great area for snow shoeing or cross country skiing in winter.
Walk past the yellow gate and walk along the gravelly road heading north for now. After about only 2 minutes of walking, turn left on the first trail you come to. At the time I placed this letterbox, there were some large stones on the left near the junction. Walk downhill slightly, then pass through a small open area on the left. Veer left at the fork. Continue on until you come to an opening in a stone wall. Step through, then take 11 steps at 270 degrees to find the "Peace...in Russian" letterbox in the stone wall.

INTERESTING NOTE: If you continue another 20 steps at 250 degrees, you will come to a couple of fairly deep depressions. I'm not sure what they were, (old foundation? sand pit??) but they are unusual. Observe them carefully if you venture there.

ANOTHER INTERESTING NOTE: There are some massive pine trees scattered throughout this area of forest. I was impressed!

After stamping in, return to the gravel road (Coop Mill Road). Turn right and continue until you return to the yellow gate and your car or turn left for more letterboxing adventures! I hope you enjoyed today's quest. Spread the word!
