Chief Cliff
Big Arm State Park
Big Arm, Lake Co, Montana

There are two possible ways to attempt this letterbox. The first will cost at least $1.00 for parking inside this state park, the other will be free if you decide to drive further north on highway 93 and park at the top of the hill. These directions will be from the state park as I chose the safer parking site. The hike from there was elevated gradually, but the surface was smooth.

Park in the parking area nearest the entrance kiosk (drive in was supposed to be $5.00, but I was able to park for a buck). Hike north up the trail starting on the highway side of the kiosk. The trail will turn onto the old highway and you will pass by a bent arrow and then an arrowhead on your left. Shortly before you pass under some wires Chief Cliff will come into view in the distance. Find the trail marker where the trail can turn back to the park and the letterbox will be 16 steps at 215 degrees under a rock and pine needles where a tree and a rock meet.

When researching our clues please be aware that when previous searchers list “ATTEMPTED” on the clue sheets it may reflect more on their abilities as finders than indicate whether the box is viable or not. We do monitor our clues and boxes pretty well and appreciate the notes written to us by those that find or attempt our letterboxes.

Please contact placer directly or through the LBNA chat list regarding status rather than unofficial databases. Up to date status can only be ascertained from placer as other information services will not have current data. The placer does not appreciate listing information about this letterbox on unauthorized information services.
