In June 2006, we went searching for a letterbox that was placed in June 2002 by funhog at the Caroline-Tuthill Preserve on Martha's Vineyard. Unfortunately we did not find the box, so we hid one very nearby ourselves. We also hid another in the Preserve.

The Caroline-Tuthill Preserve is located on the vineyard Haven- Edgartown Road about .5 miles north of Edgartown. It is on the right side of the road about .5 miles from the triangle intersection leading from Edgartown to Vineyard Haven.

The Preserve is a very woodsie area that goes past wetlands and salt marsh to a small beach. There is quite a lot of poison ivy just off the trail so be sure to stay on the path. Also, we advise insect repellent in season.

Clues:
Box 1: At the Kiosk located at the beginning of the preserve, be sure to take a map of the trail. Enter the trail and at the first fork go right toward marker #6. You will cross a private road, continue on the trail. At marker #5, be sure to stop a moment and reflect on the saying carved on the bench and enjoy the scenic view of the marsh. Continue on the trail and just after a sharp bend you will find a telephone pole on the left. Skip off the path to the left behind the pole and find an uprooted tree. The box is in the roots!

Box 2: Continue on the path past marker #4 go to the right and you will see a small footbridge(pallets actually) that lead to the beach. Enjoy the water here - it is quite warm! Play for a while, build a sandcastle or two and then...At the beach go right and follow the grassy bank about 85 yards after the beach area. Look up on the bluff and find a forked tree. The box is behind this tree in the southeast corner of some fallen timbers.

Good luck
