Drive south on Route 11 from Kona. Between milemarker 83 & 82, turn right onto "4WD only" road, marked Manuka Bay. Follow good 4WD road descending 1500 feet, about 5 miles (approx 1 hour). Majestic old Ohia trees line the road. Observe the a'a and pahoehoe lava. At the sea, park, walk south up hill, through stone wall entrance, look for smooth lighter gray stone path to the right (note the olivine in the rocks!). Walk on ancient path toward heiau (about 100 feet). Walk behind heiau, LB is located between heiau and sea at base of vary large lava rock. Enjoy this sacred place, do not disturb the heiau, rock walls or path. The challenges of finding this LB is worth the memories of the sea (coral, fish, lobster), plants (noni, ilima, kiawe), animals (mongoose, wild goats, birds) and spirit of Manuka Bay. Bring lots of water, your beach gear (snorkle, etc), sunscreen and a good chair, book. Great camp and fishing spot. Wear sturdy shoes, hat. The waves and water are powerful here. Be safe. Honu stamp, ink pad and pen with log book with few other items. (This is also a geocache.)
