"Peace...in Klingon" Letterbox
Somers, CT

This one is not only for all the Star Trek fans out there. The climb is moderate, with a cool tower when you reach the top. The stamp was created by my good friends, "Mugsy's Gang". The distance for this adventure is about 1.5 miles. Live long and prosper!

DIRECTIONS: From the junction of routes 190 and 30 in Stafford, drive west on route 190 for 3.6 miles. Turn left at the blinking lights onto Gulf Road. Go about 1.8 miles. Turn right at the sign for Soapstone Mountain. Park in the lot immediately to your right. This is the same starting point as the "Moxie!" letterbox.

From the parking lot, take the blue Shenipsit Trail heading north. Pass an open area featuring a faint trail on the right. When you come to a major intersection, turn right onto the yellow rectangle/teal triangle trail. Follow it as it meanders around. Every now and then you will come to some informational signs. At one point you will come to a "T" with an unmarked trail on the right. Continue on the yellow rectangle/teal triangle trail. After a few minutes of gradual climbing you will come to a fairly wide intersection. It seems to feature many different colors of blazes (a little confusing). You will know you are in the correct place if you see an informational sign entitled "Remnants of the Past". Anyway, on with the quest. From this intersection, follow the trail at 110 degrees. It is blazed in blue with teal triangles. Follow the trail as it becomes noticeably steeper. When you come to a "T", stop for a moment. Catch your breath. Turn right, following a trail through a brushy area. Soon the trail re-enters the forest. Watch closely for the next landmark. When you come to a flat stone on the trail that resembles home plate, stop. Take 7 steps to where the trail seems to briefly fork. Get out your compass. Walk off trail for 18 steps at 80 degrees. As you count off your steps, you'll pass twins on the left, then on the right. At the second set of twins, take out your compass again. Notice the pile of rocks in front of you. At 90 degrees go about 10 feet and look behind the rock that seems to be pointing left. Rehide the letterbox carefully, then go back to the trail. Turn right, back into the bushy area. At the familiar "T" continue straight and stroll over to the wooden tower. Have fun! It is a good place to relax and have a snack. There is a picnic table nearby by a rocky ledge area. When you are ready to leave, stand at the tower steps. Take a reading of 80 degrees. Walk down the wide path for about 20 feet. Turn left and follow the blue blazed Shenipsit Trail to the parking area. There will be trail junctions along the way, but stay on blue.

Hope you had fun! Spread the word!
