This box is missing!!!! I haven't been up in that area this summer because the birds did it aagain. This year all of the beach was closed most of the summer. I will be replacing that box, but until than don't miss the Beech Forest Trail.

****This box has no ink pad and please bring bug spray*****

The Piping Plover is a small shore bird that is endangered thoughout it's entire range where breeding habitat has been replaced with shoreline developement and recreation. This LB is to remind us what Race Point was like before the birds have taken over. For many years my family and many others have bought seasonal stickers to camp on and run Race Point, but this year the stickers are virtually useless because the birds have nested near all the entrances and once their eggs have hatched that part of the beach is closed down until the babies fledge. Today, we were sitting on the 1/10 of a mile on the South side open to us enjoying the beautiful day and water when a ranger came by to close the beach because some birds had hatched.
so we pack up and leave the beach to the birds. So now I say is it revenge that they have miles of beach to nest, but choose the few miles that we can use.

I had planned on hiding it on Race Point Beach, but the parking fee are really expensive. Race Point is a great place to see a beautiful sunset. Plan on arriving after 4:30 pm when the parking is free. Just take a left onto the road when you leave the Beech Forest parking lot and continue to the end.

Directions: The Piping Plover Revenge LB can be found on the Beech Forest Trail in Provincetown, MA. It is a 1 mile loop trail. Take Rt 6E toward Provincetown. Turn Right off Rt 6 at the 1st traffic light after you enter the Provincetown limits.(There use to be a big Race Point sign, but it is down. There is a airport sign and a sign for the Visitor's Center) Proceed approx. 1/2 mile to the Beech Forest parking area on the left.
Park at the end on the right side of the parking lot. The Trail sign should be right in front of you. Pick up a trail map and check out the nice display of poison ivy on the left side of the trail maps. It has a nature sign.( you would be surprised to find out have many people don't know what poison ivy looks like.)
Start your quest on the board walk. The board walk becomes a sandy trail. The pond will be on your left. continue pass a multi truck tree on the right. (This is about 41 steps from the board walk) You will pass a fence post on the left. This probably had a nature sign on it, but now is gone. Continue walking up a small hill, about 3/4 of the way up on the left is a large dead tree. Next to it is a split dead tree.(They both are about 80 steps from the multi trunk tree) At the base of the split tree in front is your prize covered with leaves. Please rehide it well and enjoy the rest of the trail.
