Park at Cryoden Creek Nature Center in Rockville. It's a little tricky to get to, look at their web page for better diretions.

There are probably about 4 ways to get to this box. This is a fun way but you may have to remove shoes for a creek crossing. If it's winter or icy you may not like this. (There is a trail map on their web site. The place you are trying to get to is called Overlook on their map.) There is also a slight climb. Granny and the 7 year old both did fine. Granny got her feet wet though.

Head to the right side of the parking lot. You will find a broken up road with a gate over it. Head down this road. It's pretty cracked up so be careful. There used to be a fox den on the right. At the bottom-ish of the hill you'll pass a path on your right, skip it. Next path on the right is a wooden bridge, go over it. At the end of the bridge turn right. You'll pass power equipment on your left then a white blaze. The stream is on your right. You'll follow this path about 40 paces although this is up for great family debate. Now the path is very close to the stream and you see big rocks in the stream. Cross the stream here to the other side. Five of us kept our feet dry, one did not. If it's a hot day you should hang out and swim here. We see four swimming kids. On the other side of the creek find the path and turn left on it. You are now looking for a GIANT rock outcropping. The path gets really narrow at the rock so be careful. There is a little waterfall on the left. How cute, don't fall down into it. Granny is nervous now. (Her feet are wet) Pass the GIANT rock and find the path on the far side of it. It has steps. Turn up this path. Go up the first board step. Go up the second board step. Stop. You'll see a 4 board step ahead of you. Look to your left for a whitish rock jutting out. Look under the corner of the rock closest to you. Maybe that turtle is under here. Keep the rock back on him so he doesn't wander off.
Now play around on the rock, it's really fun! Continue up the steps, it's not too bad. This trail dead ends at a T. Head left to go back to your car. You'll pass a Hickory and an American Beech on your right. A Black Gum on your left. Then a sign for the John G. Hays Forest Preserve. Now back to your car. The nature center is fun also. It's cold in there, nice bathrooms and fun things for the kids, ha and a nature gift shop that sells nice hats.
