(stamp reported missing 7/13/10, box pulled)

On a foggy day in August 1943 an Army B-17 bomber crashed into this point of land jutting out into the sea. The men were on a training mission from their base in Pendleton. Only one survived and was found alive in the plane two days later.

To the trailhead:
Take the Three Capes Scenic Drive and head to the middle cape. Park at the trailhead for the Cape Trail. This is a beautiful 2.4 mile hike, one way. Very nice ocean views along the way and at the end.

To the letterbox (not much more than .5 mile):
You will pass another letterbox along the trail on the way to find this box. When you find the plaque for the plane crash site you are very close. Count paces till the next prime number after 43. On the right a rocky place marks the trail to the box. Climb up the small steep trail and at the second live tree on the right, look behind, under its fallen neighbor.
