History

The Crown and Eagle Mill is the centerpiece of Rogerson’s Village. The earliest building was the Clapp mill built by Forbes and Benjamin Clapp in 1810. This was the first mill to make cotton thread in Uxbridge and was purchased by Robert Rogerson (hence the village name). Rogerson turned this mill into housing and then built two mills - The Crown in 1823-25 and the Eagle in 1827 over the Mumford River. While this mill looks almost 200 year old, most of it was re-built following a devastating fire in the 1975. Today the mill has been converted into seniors’ housing.

"Perched above the Mumford river the Eagle and his Crown await your arrival"

Directions
Start off on route 122 in uxbridge; take a turn on to East Hartford Ave. going in the direction of tri-river. You will pass a small convience store on your right continue down the road a few minutes and you will see a small sign saying the Rogerson’s village on your right. Take your immediate left into the state of grace parking lot.

Clues
*** NEW LOCATION!
Across the street you will see the mill. From there cross the street. Your should spot a small path between the guard rails. Go down the small trail dodging the pricker bushes. Cross a small whobbly wooden bridge. I suggest one person at a time since it is old. From this bridge take 20 Paces towards a very old tree that has been struck by lighting and has had some large sections cut down. Go to the right of the tree and look for a large section of the tree with a hollow end laying near the waters edge. Reach under and the crown is being gaurded by some bark. Please rehide well. Return back to the roadside.

THE EAGLE **NEW LOCATION!! ~Old tree that the eagle has lived in for the last few years was sadly cut down. The person that cut the tree down wrote in the log apologizing for cutting down its hiding place. It was just his job to do it! So I moved the eagle across the road to a safer location incase there is anymore construction in the area.

To your left follow the sidewalk across the bridge built in 1955. At the split in the gaurd rail to your left CAREFULLY cross the street and procced to a good sized path. Once you are on the trail almost right away to your right is a small path less traveled that will lead you to a drop of about 2f down. Hop down (little ones will need help) and turn around as see the stone wall and tree to the left growing next to the wall. Between the tree and the wall under some sticks and leaves is the eagle! Please rehide well!
