****MISSING**** WILL REPLACE AS SOON AS I CAN FIND A PLACE WHERE IT WON'T KEEP GETTING MANGLED. GRRRR. THREE'S A CHARM THOUGH, RIGHT?

History: The earliest Celtic style in art was developed in S Germany and E France by tribal artisans of the mid- to late 5th c. BC. During the next five centuries, their characteristically sophisticated designs spread throughout Europe and the British Isles. Stylized and fantastic plant and animal forms, as well as strong, geometrical, intertwining patterns, decorated the surfaces of vessels, weapons, and body ornaments. Artisans of the British Isles adapted Celtic design in the 3rd c. BC. Interlace art found in Celtic and Anglo-Saxon culture consists of either ribbon forms (abstract) or zoomorphic forms (contains animals). Traditionally, a snake eating its own tail —Ourboros— is an Interlace form symbolic of eternity. Numerous first-rate examples of Celtic and Anglo-Saxon art may be seen at the British Museum.

This Ourboros’ nickname will become clear to its finder. It has been placed as a commemorative to our sister village, Denton, England. May our friendship continue.

Directions: Your search begins at South Lakes Park. From the semi-circle parking lot, find the yellow gates at the end of the road in. Follow the sidewalk (past signs that outline park regulations). In a short time you will cross a painted marker that indicates “START” and later pass a brick memorial on your left (west). Proceed until the sidewalk comes to an intersection (about 125 steps from the yellow gates). Directly in front of you there is a lone evergreen tree. On the north side of the tree, at about head hight, you will find Sidewinder. Please re-hide it very well. This can be a busy place, so please be careful! Also, please drop me a line and let me know how it is doing!

After you find your prize, continue at about 340 degrees (down the middle path) toward a bench and a small pier. Near the bench is a redish stone with a monument that reads:

“This Grove is dedicated to the Villagers of Denton, England
County Norfolk
In friendship
On February 6, 2000 by
The Denton Parks Foundation

Denton, Texas is Equally Honored in the Millennium Wood
Denton, England”

South Lakes is a lovely park with walking trails, tennis, fishing, covered picnic areas, and the Eureka playground. It is a great place for everyone, whether you come with friends, family, or for solitude! Have FUN!
