NOTE: Blue Monkey Letterbox reported alive & well on March 15/09.

General Information

Costa Rica is an incredibly interesting country in Central America where 6% of the world’s biodiversity is found in far less than 1% of the world’s land mass. It is like a giant Nature Preserve.

We visited Costa Rica in February, 2006 and traveled with GAP Adventures. The trip was incredible and logistics and GAP support were complete and precisely as described in their literature.

Quepos is a rapidly developing area on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica and has excellent beaches and absolutely outstanding bill fishing. Three of us in one boat caught five 7-foot+ sailfish, a 28# mahimahi and a bonito in just 4 hours on the only morning we fished and that included one hour travel each way to get to, and back from, the fishing grounds.

Nearby is Manuel Antonio National Park and it is indeed a treasure. This Park is a must-see for any visitors and includes monkeys, lizards, iguana, birds, sloths, etc. as well as extremely beautiful beaches in wonderfully warm and safe water. Guided hikes in the Park are well worth the small cost and are also excellent.

Uphill from Quepos are many choices for very reasonably priced accommodation (most everything in Costa Rica is very reasonably priced).

We spent 3 days of our 17-day adventure at the ‘El Mono Azul’ Resort, locally known as the ‘Blue Monkey’, just uphill from Quepos and found both the accommodations & their in-house Rainforest Restaurant excellent.

The resort has private accommodations, each with an ensuite bath, and 3 small, but refreshing, pools.

The ‘Blue Monkey’ Letterbox is located at the ‘El Mono Azul’ Resort.

Information about Costa Rica, Quepos, the Blue Monkey and GAP Adventures is readily available on the Internet. The Website for the Blue Monkey is: www.hotelmonoazul.com.

We have no association with GAP or the Blue Monkey but, were so impressed with their overall operations, we have already booked an Inca/Galapagos adventure with GAP for next year.
