NOTE: Letterbox replaced June 30/09

Note: This Letterbox was reported alive & well on Nov. 1/09.

General Information

The Assiniboine River Corridor stretches for 17 km. (10+ miles) through the heart of Brandon, Manitoba in the centre of Canada.

The Corridor includes a network of parks and public lands which range from natural river bottom to tailored walks, formal sporting venues and historic downtown Brandon. The Corridor is being developed according to a 25-year master plan conceived in 1995.

The Riverbank Discovery Centre is home to The Brandon and Region Tourism Centre and the Ducks Unlimited Canada Provincial Offices and serves as the starting point for the extensive trail system and self-guided tours around the Interpretive Ponds adjacent to the facility.

The ‘Riverbank Discovery Centre’ Letterbox is located on one of the designated trails.

The Riverbank Discovery Centre is located on 18th Street south of the Trans Canada Highway #1 that runs east/west across the northern outskirts of Brandon.

Simply exit Highway #1 at 18th Street and go south to Conservation Drive, which is well signed, and turn east to the Riverbank Discovery Centre parking lot.

Clues

Before starting your search for the ‘Riverbank Discovery Centre’ Letterbox, drop into the Centre to pick up a free ‘Trail Map’.

Exit the Riverbank Discovery Centre and head east on the paved path. Stay on the paved path throughout your search.

Proceed to the ‘Trail Shelter & Picnic Facility’ and then turn right at the T intersection just past the facility.

The paved path will take you down a small hill and then up over a bridge across the Assiniboine River.

Immediately when you exit the bridge on the south side of the river, go around the bridge abutment to your left where you will find the ‘Riverbank Discovery Centre’ Letterbox under a number of rocks up against the concrete abutment and directly under the ‘1’ of the ‘1996’ date of construction.

Once you have found the ‘Riverbank Discovery Centre’ Letterbox and signed in, thank you for replacing the Letterbox to ensure the integrity of its hiding place.

Please ensure that there are sufficient stones covering the ‘Riverbank Discovery Centre’ Letterbox so that it is well protected from the view of passersby. It was previously reported missing and when we went to replace it, there were very few rocks near where we had hidden the Letterbox. Thank you.

We hope you enjoy the Letterbox search, the Riverbank Discovery Centre and the wonderful interpretive trail system.

Please contact us by email at peter@brill.ca to let us know you found this box and the condition it is in, plus any other comments you may have. We look forward to hearing from you.

Happy Letterboxing!
