RATED - EASY APPROX. .75 MILE (BRING A COMPASS)

Same starting point as "Klaatu barada nikto" "John Tom Hill" and "Black 47"

From the intersection of routes 83 and 94 in Glastonbury take rt. 94 east 2.9 miles and turn left onto Birch Mountain Rd. After turning onto Birch Mtn. Rd. drive .8 of a mile and be on the look out for a string of boulders and a tree marked with #60 on the opposite side of the road. Drive past turn around and pull over.

This is our first letterbox and we'd like to dedicate it to Molly (Chuck S.) Brandy (Grampa Fish) and Zoe. Who we unfortunately lost back at Christmas time 2005. She was the sweetest kindest most lovable and patient dog. We did have 3 other dogs afterall. But make no mistake she was the boss. Everyone loved Zoe and not a day goes by that we don't think of her or miss her. So if you have a dog or have lost one this hike's for you.

CLUES
Start by going around the boulders and climb the stone staircase cross the gravel road and up the next embankment to the start of the trail. Notice the radio tower on your right? You'll quickly come to the first intersection(Which will be referred to as the first a couple of times) It's marked with blue & white blazes for both directions. Once there seek out the rock with the yellow arrow on it. Take a reading of 50 degrees and bushwhack your way up to 3 boulders. Standing in front of the 2 that are touching each other take a reading of 165 degrees and go to the 2 moss covered rocks. On the south side behind a rock door you'll hear "GRACIE" playing with her squeaky toy.

GRACIE - The youngest of dogs she was born 12/05 a long haired miniature dachshund. She's feisty and doesn't mind being dressed up in clothes and loves being cuddled and her toys.

After stamping in proceed 12 steps in a southerly direction back to the trail and continue back to the first intersection . Once there turn right and follow the trail as it begins to descend. Halfway down the hill look for a boulder on the left side measuring 7 to 8 feet in diameter. Behind it in the south west corner you'll find "LOLA" chewing on a bone.

LOLA - Is next born 1/04 a bulldog and clown. A face only a mother could love. She has a lot of energy and can be a little wild at times. She loves to run and play in our yard. Loves bones and riding in the car.

After you've given Lola a new bone go back to the first intersection and take the trail at 210 degrees. At the next intersection bear to the right and pass through 2 very large boulders ( the one on the right must be 12 feet tall) As soon as you pass through count out 3 blazed trees. While standing in the middle of the trail next to the third blazed tree take a reading of 15 degrees and walk 34 steps to a boulder with a tree that apears to be growing from it's southern side. Go the north side and you should hear "MAX" squealing.

MAX - Our youngest pug he was born 3/01. He's black in color with big eyes. A very excitable dog. He's loves to jump in our laps. He also loves toys and has a favorite he sleeps with. When excited (especially at meal time) he runs around in a circle and squeals like a pig.

After the squealing has stopped return to the trail and follow it as it continues to descend. You'll have to climb over a fallen tree and when you've reached the bottom cross a stream on a 3 log bridge. After crossing the stream the trail bends to the left with a stone wall running parallel to it. From the beginning of the wall count of 17 steps to a very tall tree (Cottonwood I think) that looks like it's growing out of the wall and leaning over the trail. At this point behind the wall under a wooden door you should hear "OSCAR" barking.

OSCAR - Now our oldest dog, he too is a pug fawn in color. He was born 10/98. He's our guard dog nothing gets past him. He barks at every noise he hears. He's slowed down a bit and would rather sleep but he'll always be on guard for his family.

Well, now that you're no longer a stranger to Oscar and he's stopped barking you've obviously discovered the location to the "ZOE" bonus box. Like we mentioned before Zoe is no longer with us but remains in our hearts forever. What a fitting spot for her under a tree by a babbling brook.

Follow the trail back the way you came and return to your car.
