Some Time Alone
Arcadia, Virginia

THIS BOX IS LOST FOR NOW.
(a couple of miles from Buchanan) I-81 Exit 168, head east on Arcadia Road for a couple of miles. Pass over the James River Bridge and continue over RR tracks. Pass old mercantile on right. Take first left and over bridge, Solitude Road. Continue on Solitude for 1.4 miles (passing a meadow with a little farm on left complete with a pond). Stop at the gravel pile on Left. At the start of the gravel pile, there is large pile of debris. Across from this debris is where you enter the Beaver’s playground. Find this furry critter’s “seesaw” 20 some feet before you reach the wood duck’s shelter. In the maple fulcrum you will find Some Time Alone. Enjoy the peace of the area.
There is a lot of poison ivy around the area, so wear long pants. Also, in the spring, the swamp can be quite “swampy”. Although I have never seen this part of the beaver pond with more than an inch or two of water, you may want to wear some waterproof boots. At this time in July, it is quite dry and nothing more than tennis shoes are necessary. This whole area of the Jefferson National Forest is one of my all time favorite places to hang out for nature study. Look out for a whole lot more boxes to be planted here very soon.
