Witches Woods
NOTE-Moderate to difficult due to few trail markings and steep grade.
Beware of broken glass in areas and mosquitoes
Location-Park at the end of Greenwood Ave off of Hart street. Park in front of the gate
Enter here if you dare
for an adventure, not a scare
be prepared for a steep climb
the view at the top will be sublime!
moss covered logs
and the peep of a tree frog
Yellow red and brown
the mushrooms do abound
Follow the babbling brook through the first gate
take the path left directly after the second gate (it is green)to meet your fate
Follow this path past an old foundation
and through a swampy area without trepidation
follow the edge of the swampy area around to the right, if you will,
before entering the woods and follow the trail left as it goes up hill
continue up the hill until you notice on your right, a rocky knoll
it is atop here you (used to be able to- the trees are too tall now) glimpse the distant views of the ocean to feed your soul
Now head back down the knoll and continue on the path (right) or North then hop
about HALF WAY DOWN the hill you must STOP
with a stump to your left (the stump is almost completely ground down on 6/1/09) and a tree to your right,
don't give up the fight!
Now turn North East or if no compass head towards 10 O'clock for 18 paces
then next to a tree, look down by your laces
this letter box is right under your nose
well, really right next to your toes!
Please take care to return this box out of sight for the next letterboxing visitor.
To return, either retrace your steps or continue down the hill and go left where you can explore more of this beautiful wooded area. When you meet the road just follow it right back to your car.
