SUSKY #7 & 8 (REST IN PEACE) --(You will need your car, compass, and there are NO ink pads in these letterboxes)HAVE BEEN REPORTED AS MISSING-SORRY ABOUT THAT.
OGROOVY

Montrose, PA is a small town with a great deal of history and traditions. The 1811 Hinds Settlement was incorporated as Montrose Borough in 1824. Montrose was a stop for the Underground Railroad and a favorite vacation stop with 3 railroads bringing the “summer people”. A WALKING TOUR map showing the beautiful buildings and homes can be obtained at the Susquehanna County Historical Society on the corner of Maple St. and Monument Square (next to the US Post Office) or in many of our fine shops. Our architectural highlights includes: Classical, Italianate Villa, Colonial/Federal, Victorian, Greek Revival, “pattern book house of the 1840’s, and Gothic Revival. 4th of July, the Blueberry Festival in August, along with the Apple Festival in September, bring many craftspeople and visitors.

SUSKY #7 LETTERBOX CLUES: (Cemetery #1)

From the “Ash Chute Letterbox” SUSKY #6 (on the right) OR from the flagpole on the left, drive .3 down the hill and up the hill to the stop sign. TURN LEFT and go .7 miles to the stop sign. Carefully cross PA Route 167 and go into Requiescat (sic) in Peace and drive to the big tree to the left of the shed at the back lower edge of the cemetery. At 340 degrees walk about 12 paces (count only left foot) to a tree with 4 trunks. In the crotch is the letterbox.

In this cemetery lies a victim in an infamous murder case, the subject of which was featured in newspapers: CITIZEN’S VOICE-Wilkes-Barre, PA (Oct. 26, 1977, Sept. 24, 1997, & October 19, 1997), TIMES LEADER-Wilkes-Barre, PA (July 9, 1995), PRESS & SUN-BULLETIN-Binghamton, NY (Sept. 8, 1997 to Oct. 26, 1997), and the local Susquehanna County newspapers; magazines: TIME (October 27, 1977), PEOPLE (November 10, 1977 & June 22, 1996), WALL STREET JOURNAL (July 2, 1996), STAR (Nov. 11, 1997); and a book “Secrets from the Grave” by Maria Eftimiades, 1998, (ISBN: 0-312-96584-2). May he now rest in peace.

SUSKY #8 LETTERBOX CLUES: (Cemetery #2)

Leaving the above cemetery TURN RIGHT and go .4 miles to the stop sign. TURN RIGHT again, and then, very very shortly turn left into the cemetery. Take the Left (paved) and up the hill.
Go RIGHT at the Y and Bear LEFT when another road joins this and park at the mausoleum. Walk around to the back and stand with your back against the back door and your right shoulder against the wall. As you sight on the right edge of the last of the lined trees at about 332 degrees, there will be a low tombstone. Walk to that tombstone about 46 paces (count only left foot). If you reach the road, you have gone too far. Don’t be “HASTY”ing; look at the tree close to the front of the tombstone. In the summer at eyelevel there is a growth of green. Buried behind the rock behind the growth is the letter box you seek. Please return it so it can rest in peace. Return to your car and head in the direction you were going. At the next intersection you can turn left and go into the main part of the older section, and this cemetery offers many older tombstones that visitors have found to be excellent for rubbings for their collections. OR continue to the stop sign (S. Main St.) and you have a choice going on PA Route 29S to the right (home made ice cream at Antol’s about 2 mile on the right). OR going on PA Route 29N to the left toward the only traffic light (good food at Original Pizza ½ block on the left or the Stables about 1 mile on Route 29N on the left.
