****************BOXES MOVED WILL UP DATE SOON*************************

Well-worn unimproved trails with many educational placards along the way, Long Wharf Nature Preserve is a secret garden, next to Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park.
This site wouldn’t be a place for sea turtles to lay eggs, with the Harbor pollution and pollution from the local beaches and interstate. THIS IS NOT A TRAIL TO DO ALONE! I believe the homeless sleep here at night, and what not. But I thought it would be a nice walk if you can tune out the noise from the cars, and maybe bring a garbage bag and gloves to help clean this area up when out on the trail. It’s in desperate need of help for trash removal being it’s on the shoreline. This will also help the marine turtle’s and other sea creatures, So please bring a bag, start on the trail at the Long Wharf after the big “V” memorial, I place these boxes not only for the plight of the marine turtles, also in memory of my father a U.S. Marine, who was in W.W.II, Korea, and Vietnam.

On July 11, the U.S. federal fishing agency - National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries Service - announced their preliminary intent to issue a Fishing Permit which will eliminate a highly effective LEATHERBACK CONSERVATION AREA along the California and Oregon coast. The same fishing method has been banned on the high seas by the United Nations. But the Bush administration wants to expand it off our coast. This proposal would authorize the killing of critically endangered leatherback sea turtles, humpback whales, short-finned pilot whales and sperm whales. Other threatened species caught by this Fishery include loggerhead sea turtles, green sea turtles, olive ridley sea turtles and fin whales. Dolphins, seals, sea lions, seabirds and additional species of whales have also fallen victim Drift Gillnet fishing, which targets swordfish and thresher sharks, has been closed since 2001 in over 100,000 square miles along the West Coast for a four-month period each year to protect the leatherbacks. This important Leatherback Conservation Area has resulted in NO leatherback deaths since it was put in place. The fishing permit will allow up to 30 vessels back into this protected area. Now the Bush administration is attempting to gut this important protection. Let them know this is UNACCEPTABLE!

Clues: After entrance look for a big rock and sign with information for a “Reed Grass” look for another rock baring 300* you will find the “GREEN SEA TURTLE” box under the back side of rock. Rehide it well, watch for the homeless in the bush. Once back on the trail look for the number "12", from the top of the log count 22 steps, you will find the “LEATHERBACK”under the right side of log. Becareful of your reach!! Look carefully before!!!! Please place it back gently. From here follow trail over bridge if you follow the trail to the left it takes you to the Sound School, here you can find “Alex’s Box” There’s another box in the area the “Ikea” Box.
