Begin in the town where the Israel Crane House (1796) is located. Go to the corner of Valley Road and Normal Ave. Make a left onto Normal Ave. Pass Upper Mountian Avenue and Highland Avenue, then look for a gravel parking lot on your left. This is Mills Reservation, a county park.
From the parking lot, proceed up the main gravel trail until you come to a fork. Take the right fork.
Continue until you come to the yellow dot trail. This is a dirt trail. You will see a large rock shaped like a turtle shell on your left, and yellow dots on some of the trees to mark this trail. Go left on the yellow trail.
You will spend about 10 minutes on this trail at a leisurely pace, climbing over several exposed rock formations. A large tree has fallen over the path. Climb over it and continue approximately 110 strides. On your right you will see a cluster of rocks at the base of a tree. Look here for the letterbox.
Note: If you reconnect to the gravel trail you have gone too far.
