I'm sorry to say that this box is retired. When we went to check on it today, a priest spotted us and obviously was suspicious of and threatened by us. He did not really seem interested in our explanation of letterboxing and just continued to confront us rather rudely. We took the box and left. I've always enjoyed checking our box in the Grotto, but we will never go back there now. Thanks to all who found it and sent nice comments. I'm glad none of our finders was ever confronted by anyone there.
Veg’n Grrls placed a “Be Kind” box in the most beautiful and contemplative place in Northern Frederick County, The Grotto of Lourdes near Emmitsburg. Take the walking path to the grotto, and be sure to enjoy all the exquisite mosaics along the way. Veg’n Grrls especially love St. Francis, patron saint of animals (be kind to animals, don’t eat them!). Just past St. Francis, on the path toward the chapel, there is a smaller path leading to a bridge that (unfortunately) is blocked off. Go up to the gate blocking the bridge, and look to your right, under the rhododendron. There is a large rock on the stream bank that forms a natural ledge. Carefully and discreetly climb a bit down the bank to find a large yellow box under the rock. There are plenty of lovely places to sit and do your stamping.
