East Texas has long been known for the fine quality of its agriculture, and Tyler is especially ideal for growing a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and flowering plants. However, when a blight destroyed most of the peach crop in the early 1900's, many of the experienced nurserymen in the area turned their skills to growing roses, and by the 1920's, millions of rose bushes were being grown in local fields. Tyler rapidly gained national prominence for rose production and soon earned the title of "Rose Capital of the Nation." In 1933, the local Garden Club held the first Texas Rose Festival, and it has evolved into an annual event that attracts thousands of visitors from across the nation. In 1952 the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden was opened and has become the nation's largest. The Garden blooms with nearly 40,000 rose bushes exhibiting approximately 500 varieties of roses from late April until frost, but this microbox blooms all year. The Garden is free and open daily during daylight hours, so come enjoy the beauty of a Tyler Rose.

Directions:
Going north on US 69 to Tyler, continue when it becomes S. Broadway. Turn left (west) on W. Front St for a little over a mile, then left on Rose Park Dr. The Tyler Municipal Rose Garden is at 420 Rose Park Drive.

Clues:
Go to the back of the museum building facing the garden and walk east about 75 yards to the left side of the fountain. Turn left (north) into the Meditation Garden and walk about 20 steps to the first of 2 benches facing a pond. Sit on the end of the first bench facing the second bench and look to your left at the top row of the rock wall. The camo microbox is in a crevice behind a white rock. Please be discreet and rehide well.
