Difficulty: Easy
Length: 20-30 minutes
You'll need: Good shoes, compass, mosquito spray

Directions: Going South on Rte. 1 from Raleigh/Apex, take the Moncure/Pittsboro Exit. Turn Right off the ramp. Turn Right on to Jordan Dam Rd. Drive towards the Dam & Day Use Center and park in the spaces provided.

This is a great area to go boating, fishing, camping, & picnicing. If you drive down the road on the right, you will see a playground area for the kids. It has plenty picnic tables and a nice view of the 'begining' of Haw River.

History: In 1945 a hurricane caused severe flooding of the Cape Fear River Basin and destroyed 25% of Fayetteville. In 1967 contruction of this dam began by the US Army Corps of Engineers. It was finished in 1982. The B. Everrett Jordan Dam has a top elevation of 266.5 feet above sea level and a length of 1330 feet.

Clue:
Go up the stairs on the Left. Take a moment to read the information plaques. Go to the observation deck and enjoy the view. (Jordan Lake was made by flooding 13,900 acres of land.) Then with your back to the dam, head in a 270 degree direction from the entrance of the observation deck. At the end of the building you will see a path heading off in a 330 degree direction. Follow that path until you get to a camp side chat & stage area. The box is under the NW corner of the stage. Please be discreet!
