You will need a stamp pad and pen.

This letterbox is dedicated to my wonderful hubby who is a cuddly as a bear.

Take your pick as to how easy or difficult you want to make this hike.
If you are wanting some absolutely spectacular vistas, take the Diez Vista Trail. Now I will caution you ,you must be prepared for a hike for 6 to 9 hours. Take a snack and water and anything you would need for a long hike. Also be sure to have a map of the area. Hiking maps are available at the kiosk in the park. This is a long, strenuous hike.
However, to access the box you do NOT need to take the entire Diez Vista Trail.

The letterbox is at Buntzen Lake.

Buntzen Lake is a 4.8 km long reservoir maintained by BC Hydro. The recreational area cover 182 hectares, and provides over 50 km of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, swimming, boating, fishing, picnic area, and wildlife viewing. Buntzen Lake was named after the first general manager of the BC Electric Co., Johannes Buntzen. A great lake for some hiking, great views and much more!

For more information call 1-800-BCHYDRO.

This is the first letterbox for this park and there is room for many more.

Buntzen Lake Trail is wonderful for a medium hike.

This is a nicely groomed trial that encircles the lake and provides many view points along the way. As an added bonus are the wild salmonberries, strawberries, goose berries, salal, huckleberries and blackberries you can find along the way to snack on depending on the season.

To the letterbox:
Start the hike at the south end of the first parking lot(or rather the last or bottom parking lot). Follow the signs to the floating bridge and go across the southwest arm of Buntzen Lake. Along this trail there was warning of a territorial owl. I did not get to see the owl, but it has apparently attacked a couple of people. Makes one wonder if it was provoked. I have seen many owls while hiking and have never been attacked.

Take your time at the boardwalk. If you have your birding glasses you should be treated to some sightings here. The kids might even spot some fish in the water. This really is a peaceful place to ponder.

Continue along the boardwalk. Here is where the trail branches off. Straight up for Diez Vistas and the letterbox.
As you climb this first hill you will come to a distinct 'T' in the trail. Go neither left nor right, but peer ahead into the underbrush here and see a pile of debris, is it bamboo? No. Do you notice a piece of bark, a rock too? Very carefully remove the panda. The trail shouldn't be too busy.
Log in and stamp and rehide the letterbox as you found.

Now you can choose to continue on the longer hike Diez Vista, remembering you must be prepared and it will take you about 8 hours. You may instead choose to drop back down to the gravel road and hike the Lakeshore Trail(or simply head back the way you came). If you follow Lakeshore trail after 15 minutes the trail brings you to the first pump house and changes from a road to the trail proper. Take the right fork for the lake trail which takes you into a pine needle covered path in the cool forest. Along the way you have several peek a boo views of the lake while the trail twists and turns through the forest.
